Urgent Note on New Range Rules

Urgent!

There has been some confusion regarding concealed handguns in the new range rules. Please read General Rules III.F and III.P very carefully. Those with lawfully concealed handguns are only allowed to remove the gun from the holster in order to unload and make the pistol safe. “Drawing from a holster” in General Rule III.F simply means removing the handgun from the holster, whether or not there is an intent to fire a shot.

The only range that permits drawing and firing a loaded handgun is the Action Pistol Range, and that applies only to members who have been certified by the Action Pistol Committee Chair according to the current range SOPs. Members on Precision Pistol, Plinking, or those on Action Pistol without certification may only remove a concealed handgun from the holster in order to unload it and make it safe.

The intent of General Rule III.P is that a member who has a concealed handgun and wishes to shoot it at AAF&G can go to one of the approved ranges, unholster, and then shoot the gun from the bench as normal. If you want to practice from the holster, you must follow the Action Pistol certification process linked above.
